Bestanden en mappen knippen en plakken op Mac OS X

Eén van de weinige dingen die ik uit de Windowsomgeving mis, is de mogelijkheid om via keyboardsnelkoppelingen snel bestanden te verplaatsen (knippen en plakken). Ik gebruik–net zoals veel powerusers waarschijnlijk–veel meer het keyboard, dan mijn muis. In OS X heb je geen cmd+x en cmd+v keyboardsnelkoppelingen, zoals die bij windows (ctrl+x en ctrl+v) bestaan.

Maar er bestaat een oplossing voor, in de vorm van twee freewareprogrammaatjes. Ziehier een kleine tutorial om de cut/pastefunctionaliteit ook op Mac OS X te hebben:

  1. Installeer het programma OMCEdit (je moet na de installatie uitloggen en opnieuw inloggen)
  2. Installeer het programma Shortcuts
  3. Download de commando’s voor Knippen en Plakken
  4. Start OMCEdit en importeer (cmd+i) beide commando’s één voor één
  5. Stop OMCEdit en start Shortcuts
  6. Klik op Start (onder onder “ShortCutObserver Status”) en Add (onder “ShortCutObserver Login Startup”)
  7. Ga naar het tabblad “Assign Hot Keys”
  8. Selecteer onder “File” Item knippen en verzin een hotkey (ik gebruikte cmd+shift+x)
  9. Selecteer onder “Folder” Item plakken en verzin een hotkey (ik gebruikte cmd+shift+v)
  10. Stop Shortcuts en probeer even of het werkt!

That’s it. Works like a charm here (OS X 5 – Leopard).

    Cut-paste. Uiteraard wel voor text, gezien dat programma-afhankelijke functies zijn. De redenering achter het geen cut-pasteprincipe in het OS is dat je wel eens zou kunnen vergeten om de file ergens te plakken, met data loss als gevolg. Vreemde redenering vind ik, maar goed. OS X heeft dan ook altijd al een muis-gecentreerde interface gehad. Slepen = knippen en plakken van mappen, bestanden, …

    Da’s inderdaad vreemd. Normaal wordt er toch niks verwijderd tot je ook daadwerkelijk ‘plakt’?

    Apple’s apparent philosophy here is that it would be confusing to the user if they were to cut a file in the filesystem, then cut something else (such as text from a document) without having first pasted the cut file (where does the file go?). To avoid this situation, Apple has opted to prevent the user from using cut in the filesystem entirely. Unforunately, this means that if you want to move a file from one location to another using the keyboard, you’ll need to copy the file, paste it into its new location, and then delete the original file.

    Dit werkt in ieder geval voor Os X 5 Leopard. Jij hebt misschien Snow Leopard ondertussen, waarvoor de procedure wel anders kan zijn…
